2nd Grade

Second grade is a year for growing in independence and confidence. We build stamina to read longer books, write stories with more details, and we take charge of our learning. Students will also experience performing an assembly for the entire school.

Here are some curriculum highlights for 2nd grade:

Reader's Workshop

Writer's Workshop

Math

• Fluency in adding and subtracting within 20
• Adding and subtracting two-digit numbers
• Data and Graphing

Social Studies

• Map Skills
• Symbols and Government
• Communities, Consumers and Producers

Science

• Pebbles, Sand, and Silt earth science unit
• Insect and Plants life science unit
• Solids and Liquids physical science unit

Character Education

• ThinkFirst/Second Step: district adopted character education and bullying prevention programs
• Kid Power: Empowering students to make wise choices behaviorally, socially, and academically

Art/Music/P.E./Library/Garden

• 40 minutes of art each week with the art teacher
• 30 minutes of music each week with the music teacher
• Two, 30 minute P.E. classes each week with our P.E. Teacher. Students also receive an additional 40 minutes each week of class P.E. with their classroom teacher.
• 30 minutes of library each week with the librarian
• 45 minutes in the garden every two weeks
