Lunch in the Raccoon's Den

The Raccoon's Den, our great hot lunch program (the only onsite cooked lunch in OUSD!), has the extraordinary Chef Basil and his assistant, Rodrigo.  Each day, they create amazing lunch entrees for our kids, but they do need the help of parent volunteers to make it all possible.

Parents volunteers help with Mealtime processing, assisting the kids with the lunch choices, and answer any questions kids may have.  Your time and help are both necessary and very appreciated! This is a great opportunity to team up with your buddy (two volunteers per shift) and spend a couple hours together. You also receive 2 meal vouchers for working each shift.

No experience is necessary, but you will need to have TB clearance* (see below for details).

Once you’ve sign up for a date, please do not remove yourself from the calendar. If you are unable to fulfill your schedule, please find someone else to swap or sub and let the office know who the replacement volunteer is.

If you have a last minute emergency or illness and can’t cover your Hot Lunch duty, please contact the office at (925) 258-0016.

Thanks again for volunteering!

All Volunteers must wash their hands for 20 seconds prior to preparing food and after using the bathroom, sneezing, touching your face or hair, licking your fingers or consuming food. 20 seconds is the equivalent of singing "Happy Birthday" twice.

Gloves are provided for handling food. Any open wounds should be covered with band aids and gloves should be worn.

TB Screening and Testing

Wagner Ranch needs a copy of current TB screening documentation if you wish to volunteer at school.

The screening is valid for four years. if you have volunteered in prior years, and an update is needed, we will let you know. Look for the notice in your Registration/Teacher's Assignment Package you will receive at Jumpstart.

Wagner Ranch TB Screening is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, 7:30-9am

The Contra Costa Health Department requires all volunteers in school, including those working in the Raccoon's Den, to complete a risk assessment questionnaire for communicable tuberculosis (TB). For most people, this is all that is needed, however, you may be referred to your doctor's office for a skin PPD test. It is the responsibility of each volunteer to provide the school with proof of a negative PPD skin test. TB screening results are valid for four years after your TB test. If you have any questions about TB screening, please contact the office or call Glory Lane at the Orinda Union School District office (925) 258-6219.
